About CRV Ambreed

FIELD CONSULTANTS

Look after our clients’ needs. They do this by delivering their banks and equipment on time, making sure their liquid nitrogen is kept full and letting clients know all about the other great services we have to offer. Our job as Field Consultants is to make your job as a farmer easier.

GENETICSStraws3web.jpg

Our Genetic Development Department is responsible for things like choosing which cows we contract mate to, which bull calves we buy and keeping an eye on the dairy industry in general. Within Genetics there are different responsibilities such as:
•    Keeping track of our FastFoward program
•    Coordinating which cow has been mated to which bull (also, what the resulting calf was) and organizing future matings.
•    Buying the best calves from around New Zealand
•    Keeping our own herd organized
•    Tracking the changes in the different indexes and industry regulations

PRODUCTION

Our production department have many roles including;
•    Housing, feeding and looking after all the bulls the Genetics department brought
•    Making sure the bulls stay healthy and disease free. All of the bulls CRV AmBreed look after are tested before they are picked up from the farmer
•    Collecting semen from these bulls in our state of the art collection facilities
•    Screening (to make sure it’s healthy), preparing and freezing the semen.

DESPATCHIMG_4527marikaweb.JPG

Our despatch department are responsible for storing the semen, then making sure it’s delivered to the farmer according to the delivery date on their sales order. They also send out any equipment the farmer has asked for. Normally the farmers need their semen and equipment a week or two before they start mating. Some farmers also send extra semen back to Despatch at the end of the mating season and Despatch put this into storage for the farmers’ future use.

HERD SERVICES

Our Herd Services department is basically split into two areas:
1.    Herd Testing
2.    Herd Recording

Herd Testing

We send our Herd Testing Technicians out to our clients’ farms when they are milking to test the milk from each cow. Things they are testing for include:
•    Does each cow have a healthy Somatic Cell level?
•    The percentage of Fat & Protein in the milk of each cow
•    Volume of milk being produced by each cow

The herd testers collect the milk samples every day and send them all back to our Herd Pairing team who sort the samples then send them to SAITL. SAITL (stands for South Auckland Independent Testing Society Ltd) is responsible for entering the information collected via the samples into the National Database.Feeding1web.jpg

Herd Recording

Our Herd Recording department is responsible for maintaining the records of each farmer recording with us. Farmers can chose to either fill in an Animal Event Form and send it back to us, or they can use the MISTRO software to input this data themselves and submit it electronically. The sort of information farmers record includes:
•    When cows have their calves
•    When cows die or get culled
•    Tags each cow has
•    When animals are brought or sold

ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION (AI) TECHNICIANS

We have AI Technician training schools where people can choose to either learn to inseminate other people’s cows as a job, or farmers can come along and learn how to inseminate their own cows.
Subjects covered in our training schools include:
•    Reproductive anatomy
•    Health & Diseases
•    Frozen semen production
•    Heat Detection
•    Sire selection
•    Nutrition

Farmers know when it’s time for a cow to be inseminated by using heat detection devices like Estrotect. These have a silver covering which rubs off when other cows mount the cow in heat. The more a cow is mounted, the more the silver is rubbed off showing the fluorescent colour hidden underneath. When a cow has no silver covering left on her Estrotect this means she’s ready to be inseminated. The sort of colours Estrotect have available include Fuschia, Red, Yellow, Blue and Green.
