Conception Rate Enchancer!

Over the past 7 seasons, AmBreed have been marketing a semen processing enhancement that has been trade marked as FERTABULL.
The product was first introduced by ABS Global in the USA market to increase herd fertility in large herds affected by heat stress, production pressure and other herd related stress.

The concept of the product is to optimise fertilization by having sperm cells in the straw that have variable capacitation rates.
This is achieved by combining a number of different sires in the single straw. The bulls are selected so that they complement one another in terms of capacitation rates.
AmBreed has developed the concept by using Polled Hereford sires, where the known sire of the calf is not critical.

The sires used are selected for superior calving ease, growth rate and conception. The sire of the resultant calf can be identified later, if required, by the use of DNA technology.
Results from the last 5 years of semen use have shown a definite improvement in dairy cow conception, especially in cows that are in the lower group of the herd’s fertility.
It has been proven that the lower the herd’s conception during mating, the greater the difference between Fertabull and single Hereford sire inseminations.
The product has been especially successful when used in conjunction with synchrony programmes and for mating those cows that replacements are not required from (results extracted from the National Database show an increase of 8% in favour of Fertabull over individual Hereford sires for the 2004 mating season).

The financial benefit of this kind of increase is significant to any A.I programme.
The price of Fertabull is $8.00 per straw and given the likelihood of increased conception,
