Not happy with your current herd test service and wondering about the advantages or costs of changing to test with CRV AmBreed? Or have you just put it all in the ‘too hard’ basket?
It’s not as daunting as it may seem. Below are some Frequently Asked Questions we get from farmers when changing service providers.

CAN I HERD TEST WITH CRV AMBREED BUT STILL RECORD WITH MINDA?
Yes, you can. All herd test data is uploaded onto the National database so will appear on your Minda herd records. NOTE: Unfortunately the reverse does not apply i.e. farmers cannot herd test with LIC and record with CRV.

DOES HERD TESTING ALWAYS INCLUDE A HERD TESTER? HOW MANY COWS BEFORE I HAVE
TO PAY FOR AN EXTRA HERD TESTER?
Yes, as the herd tester is responsible for recording litres. An extra tester is dependent upon shed size, but generally 28 cups is maximum for one herd tester. HOWEVER the farmer has the option of supplying the extra assist (and saving on cost).

ARE THE MILK METERS ANY MORE ACCURATE AGAINST WHAT ACTUALLY GOES IN MY VAT?
The milk meters CRV AmBreed uses collect a proportionate volume of each section of the cow’s milk (from start to finish), resulting in a more accurate sample. This set-up also remains consistent throughout the entire season.

CAN I STILL RECORD WITH CRV BY PAPER AND FAX METHOD?
Yes, and you can email us as well with any requests, queries or events. All CRV AmBreed recording clients are supplied with animal event forms, and calving and mating booklets in recording packs at the beginning of the season.

HOW EASY IS MISTRO 5 TO SET UP ON MY COMPUTER? AND IS IT COST EFFECTIVE?
A MISTRO 5 disc is supplied for you to load. You then register online and CRV AmBreed will notify you of your registration details and subsequently download your herd details to your computer. This is significantly cheaper than other recording systems.

WHAT HERD INFORMATION IS CARRIED OVER WHEN CHANGING FROM MINDA TO MISTRO?
ALL information is retained on National Database. MISTRO will initially carry over 2 years worth of prior herd data. Production indexes are replaced by NZMI and ALI, but BW, PW and LWs are still available upon request.

Annual per Cow on register - $2.20/cow
Annual per Youngstock on register - $0.80/head

MISTRO Farm 5 $90/yr•
MISTRO Lite $150/yr•
Software cost options:
Paper based $0/yr•
MISTRO Farm 5 $150/yr (new clients only)•
MISTRO Lite $60/yr•
MISTRO Pocket $650 (payable only once – and you own it!)•
Remedial Recording work $30/hour (maximum $400)
CRV HERD TESTING PRICING 2010:
Visit Fee - $260/test for first four tests ($210/test from 5th test on)
Meter Fee - $3/meter per test
Cow Fee:
Full Test $1.75/cow per test•
SCC or OAD Test $1.45/cow per test•
Extra Assist if required - $210/test
South Island Freight surcharge - $42 per 125 cows (approx.)
SCC TXT Service (Top 10 high SCC cows texted to client) - $10/season
