Behind the scenes on the Swney farm
The Swneys have used DairyBase to identify the areas in their business that were costing them money. Animal health costs and bought-in feed were highlighted as two focus areas. Come and find out what else they discovered, and how they have made changes to tackle the problem areas and get the best out of their system.
Get the best out of your herd’s BW
Getting the best return from their herd through breeding is one of the Swneys’ focus areas. Melissa Stephen (DairyNZ) will talk about how you can maximise the returns you get from your herd’s BW.
Managing crops to best advantage
The Swneys wanted to make the most out of their crops, partly so that they could decrease bought-in feed costs. Diana Mathers (FAR) will talk about cropping strategies and getting the best environmental outcomes out of using crops.
Stopping the hop
The Swneys have had long-running herd lameness issues. Lameness is a complex problem and can involve many contributing factors. Neil Chesterton, lameness guru, will explain how to tackle lameness and how to manage the risk factors. When Neil spoke at the conference even the most experienced farmers learned something new!
