Reducing our carbon footprint

DairyNZ and AgResearch have jointly released findings from a study that shows New Zealand dairy farmers have the world’s lowest on-farm carbon footprint.

In fact, their emissions are half of other international milk producers.

Commissioned by DairyNZ, the study was independently produced by AgResearch and peer-reviewed by an international specialist in Ireland.

CRV’s Rosanna Dickson is joined by André Mazzetto from AgResearch, who is one of the scientists behind the work. Andre talks about people’s reactions to the findings, how science could help the industry reach its targets and the role genetics could play.

Rosanna Dickson – CRV National Account Manager

Rosanna Dickson was raised on the Awhitu Pennisula and has always been a country girl. She joined the dairy industry in 2013. Before that, she worked in FMCG and spent ten years in radio advertising, surviving the global financial crisis of 2008.

Despite being a qualified Chartered Accountant, Rosanna quickly picked up the intricacies of bull traits and semen collection after joining CRV. Her passion is finding the right solution for NZ dairy farmers. Not just products and services but understanding the key business drivers to ensure farms are profitable, environmentally sustainable and are protecting our “Licence to Farm”.

 

 

André Mazzetto – Life Cycle Assessment Scientist, AgResearch

André is a biologist and currently working as a at AgResearch’s Lincoln campus in Christchurch.

He has Masters in Microbiology and a PhD in greenhouse gas emissions in livestock from the University of San Paolo in Brazil.

André has a strong background in Agronomy. His main interest is the sustainable intensification of food production and its impact from both an environmental and social perspective.
